Do you plan your outfit?

That may sound like a silly question, but taking a little time the night before, can pay off plenty! Here are a few things to consider:

  1. The Weather – is it going to be bitter cold, steaming hot, maybe rain or snow. Planning ahead with the proper clothing, footwear, outerwear can save your precious minutes while you are getting ready in the morning.
  2. Your day – Do you have an important meeting? Does your boss have an important interview? Will you be making a presentation? Knowing what you have in store for your day will help you choose the right outfit.
  3. Casual day – Is Friday casual day? I suggest that you should still err on the side of professional even when it comes to a casual day. Don’t show up in your workout clothes and gym shoes. As a suggestion, wear dark denim pants, a collared shirt with jewelry and boots. You can never go wrong looking appropriate and professional.
  4. Go-to outfit / uniform – Do you have a “go-to” outfit? Something comfortable that makes you feel professional or polished. Steve Jobs had a black turtleneck, Mark Zuckerberg has a gray t-shirt. What is it that you like to wear? Pick out one of your favorites and make it your “uniform” on those days when you can’t find anything to wear.
  5. Capsule Wardrobe – Invest in a basic work-wear Capsule Wardrobe. Purchase a few essential items that coordinate and never go out of style like trousers, pencil skirts, structured tops, and blazers. You might be thinking… “I don’t have the money for that!” These days you can buy great basics by thrift shopping and visiting second-hand websites like Thred-Up.
